Hello Universe! Middle of the story. In the middle of the story, Virgil realizes that he missed so many opportunities when he was very shy, and quiet. I know this because on page 245 it explained how he could have been better, and that his family always teased him for being so shy, quiet, and that he was afraid of the dark. The book also says " And he loved them, too, of course, even if he didn't understand them." This concludes this quote that he understands how much he loves his family even though sometimes he might not understand them. This also means that he is starting to realize that he missed a lot of opportunities to engage more, and try to be less shy.
