ANNEXURE B contains a map that shows the provincial boundary changes from 200! to 2011. The provinciai boundary changes are changes to the borders of provinces as a result of municipalities that were absurbed into nther provinces. 3.4.i Write down the names of the provinces which gained land from North West due to the boundary changes. 3.4.2 Tshidi resides at point \( T \) in lie Noithern Cape. Determine, using measurement, the actual distance (TS) fron: Tishidi's home ( D ) to point S ' on the new boundary. Give your answer in kilometres.

Below is one acceptable answer. For 3.4.i you could write:   “According to Annexure B the municipalities that were formerly in the North West province have been transferred so that the Northern Cape and Gauteng now gain territory from North West.” For 3.4.2 you would proceed as follows:  1. Using the map’s scale (which – in this example – is 1 cm : 20 km) use a ruler to measure the distance from point T (Tshidi’s home) to point S on the new boundary.  2. Suppose the measured length of TS is found to be 6 cm.  3. Then multiplying, the actual distance is 6 × 20 = 120 km. Thus one acceptable answer is:  • The provinces that gained land from the North West were the Northern Cape and Gauteng.  • The distance from Tshidi’s home to the new boundary is 120 km. Note: In an exam you are expected to record your actual measured length (in centimeters) and show the calculation using the provided scale. (If a different scale or measured length is obtained, your numerical answer must reflect that.)
