Independent Living Skills Clayton's current independent living skills can be broken down into 6 different subsets. Those include; grooming \& hygiene, mealtime behaviors, clothing care \& use, medication, food preparation and lastly recreation/job skills. Clayton can effectively use an adaptive electric toothbrush independently but due to lo tone in his appendages, assistance is needed to apply toothpaste. After using his electric razor with an adaptive handle, Clayton can apply colognes and scented lotions but needs assistance to pump the spray and hold the bottles. When it comes to toileting, Clayton's current level of performance is successfully relieving himself but needs assistance when it comes to wiping with a Dude Wipe after a BM, after which is able to pull up both pants and underwear. When it comes to mealtimes and food prep, Clayton-cande can achieve a lot independently. In the kitchen Clayton can independently use a toaster, a rocker knife, drink from a water bottle that can be held on like a backpack and set the table. The table includes dinnerware and plastic glasses and needs to be on the table beforehand. With some prompting and support (like stabbing food) he can eat with utensils, use the microwave and pack his lunch. Oversight is needed when it comes to the amount of food Clayton can independently scoop and serve himself. With the use Dycem nonslip material his tableware (including an adaptive lipped plate) stays in place. Although he likes to bake, his real love is eating out, especially at buffets where he can carry a food tray with one or two items on top of it.
