Inside a seed, you can find three main components: the embryo, which is the young plant in its early stages of development, packed with tiny cotyledons (little leaves) that provide initial nourishment; the endosperm, a starchy substance that nourishes the embryo as it begins to grow; and the seed coat, a protective outer layer that keeps all the goodies inside safe from the big, scary world outside. Seeds come in all sorts of shapes and sizes, each adapted to their environment! For example, dandelion seeds have fluffy structures that help them float away in the wind, while nuts like acorns have hard shells to protect their precious embryos until conditions are just right for germination. It’s nature’s way of ensuring that the next generation has the best chance to thrive!
