How many days are in a leap year?

A leap year has 366 days instead of the usual 365. This extra day is added to February, giving it 29 days instead of 28. The purpose of this extra day is to keep our calendar year synchronized with the astronomical year, as Earth takes approximately 365.25 days to orbit the sun.
